Cultural Competence: Strategies for Effective Practice

• Participants will gain understanding of various facets of culturally competent practice.

• Participants will learn the legal expectations for language assistance services.

• Participants will utilize SOAR - Self Directed education about the people and community served, Ownership of the process to implement change, Articulation of the vision and expectations, and Responsible leadership and accountability over the long haul as a framework to organize the change process.

• Participants will utilize an individualized toolkit to assess current capacity and to plan for change within their organizations.

• Participants will share workforce and training challenges and successes in their organization's attempts to provide skill-building opportunities related to cultural competence.

• Participants will gain strategies to support cross cultural care in foster care.
