Family Systems Theory

  • Participants will understand family systems theory and its applications to relationship development, family assessment, case planning, as well as both supportive and therapeutic counseling.

  • Participants will have the tools to work with families to fully assess family dynamics, including relationships and interactions of family members, family roles, use of power, communication patterns, family strengths and needs, dysfunctional

  • behaviors, and the family's functioning within its extended family and community.

  • Participants will identify indicators of the dynamics within families that may contribute to the development and perpetuation of child abuse, neglect, and child sexual abuse.
